Paranormal Activity 3 directors to work with Blumhouse on found footage virus horror ‘Viral’ (formerly Peste)

About a year ago it was announced that a new found footage horror was on the way, with Abigail Breslin (Zombieland, The Call, Haunter) attached to star. Initially titled Peste, nothing has been said of the film since Breslin’s casting announcement just before Cannes last year, but now there is finally an update on Peste, which has now had its name changed to Viral.

It is unknown whether Breslin is still attached to star at this point, but the film has had a new pair of directors confirmed. Originally the film was set to be directed by Mark Tonderai (House at the End of the Street), but he has since left the project, and the film will now be directed by Catfish and Paranormal Activity 3 & 4 directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost.

The Weinstein’s will be releasing the film, which will be produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions.Barbara Marshall and Chris Landon wrote the script.

Here is the latest synopsis, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting:

Viral follows teenager Emma Drakeford, struggling after a recent family tragedy, who begins a video documentary about her life for a school project. Everything goes crazy when a terrifying virus sweeps through her small town, turning her friends and neighbors into vicious monsters. Quarantined with her family, Emma believes they are out of harm’s way but when the contagion finally infiltrates their home Emma and her family are faced with an impossible decision – if someone you love becomes a threat, do you kill them in cold blood or save them at the risk of your own life?

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
