Project X‘s Thomas Mann, and “Melissa & Joey’s” Taylor Spreitler have been cast in the Amityville Horror sequel, Amityville.
According to Dread Central, the film began shooting this week in Los Angeles, which also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, McKenna Grace, Bella Throne and Cameron Monaghan.
Leigh stars as lead character Joan, a single mother who moves her three kids into the Amityville house, which of course has a very dark history.
Formerly known as The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes, the film now has a much simpler title of simply Amityville. The film is to be released in US cinemas on 2nd January 2015.
Amityville is produced by Jason Blum, Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. Bob and Harvey Weinstein are Executive Producers. Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands wrote the script, and will both direct the film. Maniac remake director Franck Khalfoun will also be getting behind the camera for the non-found-footage sequel.
Amityville showcases the events after the time of the original ‘The Amityville Horror’ book and movie through found footage dating back to 1976. An ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror … only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close.
