Last year it was announced that a TV series of Daredevil would premiere on Netflix, and that Marvel’s takeover of the world would continue with further series’ planned for Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Daredevil is due to come first, with Cabin in the Woods director and writer of Cloverfield, Drew Goddard, taking charge.
Goddard will be showrunner, writer and director of the series, and today some juicy details have been revealed about the exciting new series.
Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada, recently spoke on Kevin Smith’s Fatman on Batman podcast, and revealed some very interesting details on the new Daredevil TV series.
First off, it was revealed that Daredevil would indeed exist within Marvel’s current movie world, and just might eventually tie in with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU as it is better known:
“There will be some interconnectivity, much like the movies. They will exist within the cinematic universe again, so this is all the same world as S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.”
I must admit to not really taking to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and in fact I gave up after just three episodes, but Daredevil actually sounds promising:
“Although these are superhero stories, this is different now. This is the street level…this is the street level noir side of the Marvel Universe. Something that you haven’t really, really seen in any of our Marvel movies. And probably more ground level, than I think you’ve seen. This is not like us doing Batman, Dark Knight or any of that stuff. This is very Marvel doing street level superheroes”
Now this certainly does sound cool, and while Quesada was not willing to give any details away about the shows bad guy (“I’m not going to say who the villain is in our story”), he did promise some exciting scripts were coming in:
“The scripts are coming in. They are pretty fantastic. They’re really emotional. They’re very, very original. But at the same time, it is Daredevil. It is Matt Murdock. We will eventually, hopefully start casting really, really soon, but I’m very, very excited about it”
The plan with these new series is to release them in order: Daredevil will come first in 2015, followed by Jessica Jones, then Iron Fist and finally Luke Cage. Word is that once these series’ have all played, it will be followed up by a Marvel’s Defenders mini-series which will bring all the characters together. There are also possible plans for each character to have their own stand-alone movie.
Marvel have confirmed that Daredevil will premiere on Netflix in 2015.
