Casting updates: Jeremy Irons & Sienna Miller for Ben Wheatley’s ‘High Rise’, and Jennifer Morrison for horror ‘6 Miranda Drive’

Some brief casting announcements here for you, but all are within the confines of our beloved horror and cult genres, so here goes!

First up the super sexy Sienna Miller (above) and the always terrific Jeremy Irons (below) have joined the cast of Ben Wheatley’s latest film, High Rise

Per Screen Daily:

Production is due to get underway in July in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on the project, which HanWay is shopping in Cannes.

The film centres on a new residential tower built on the eve of Margaret Thatcher’s rise to power, at the site of what will soon become the world’s financial hub. Designed as a luxurious solution to the problems of the city, it is a world apart.

Enter Robert Laing (Hiddleston), a young doctor seduced by the high-rise and its creator, the visionary architect Anthony Royal (Irons). Laing discovers a world of complex loyalties, and also strikes up a relationship with Royal’s devoted aide Charlotte (Miller).

But rot has set in beneath the flawless surface. Sensing discord amongst the tenants, Laing meets Wilder, a charismatic provocateur bent on inciting the situation. Wilder initiates Laing into the hidden life of the high-rise and Laing is shocked at what he sees. As the residents break into tribal factions, Laing finds himself in the middle of mounting violence. Violence that he also finds emerging in himself.

Additional casting is underway on the project scripted by Wheatley’s wife and regular collaborator Amy Jump. Backers include Film4, Northern Ireland Screen and the BFI, which has committed more than £1m to the project.

Wheatley said: “I’ve been a fan of Sienna’s since seeing her heartbreaking role in Factory Girl. There’s a steely resilience in her performances, and I know she will be excellent in her central role in High-Rise”

“What can you say about Jeremy Irons? From Dead Ringers to Margin Call, Jeremy has been creating indelible performances. He’s one of our finest actors and it’s very exciting to work with him.”

Also revealed yesterday, by The Wrap, is that Jennifer Morrison (below, How I Met Your Mother) has joined the cast of Wolf Creek director Greg McLean’s Blumhouse produced horror, 6 Miranda Drive. She will join the already cast Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell.

Morrison will play one half of a fun-loving couple that joins Bacon and Mitchell’s family on their summer getaway to the Arizona landmark.

Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions will produce with Matt Kaplan of Chapter One and Bianca Martino of Emu Creek Pictures are producing. Robyn Marshall from Chapter One will co-produce. McLean both writes and directs.

The project centers on a family that unwittingly brings a fear-feeding supernatural force with them when they return from a Grand Canyon vacation. Feeding off their own fears, the evil presence threatens to destroy them from within as it takes over their lives and home, with terrifying results.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
