May 4 is considered a holiday by Star Wars fans to celebrate the franchise’s films, books and culture, The date is chosen because “May the 4th” sounds similar to the phrase “May the Force be with you” in which fans commonly say “May the fourth be with you”. This year, Lucasfilm kicked off its festivities beginning with the showing of a teaser trailer for the forthcoming animated Star Wars series Star Wars Rebels, which is set between Episodes III and IV:
Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. The clever and motley crew of the starship Ghost is amongst a select few who are brave enough to stand against the Empire.Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, encounter colorful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.
The trailer sets up the world in which Star Wars Rebels takes place: “In a time of darkness, when fear ruled the galaxy, heroes will rise, destinies will collide and a rebellion will ignite.” Flashes of main characters, key dialogue and glimpses of battle sequences can be seen to whet the appetite, and if like me you consider some of the animated Star Wars stuff to be superior to the first [chronologically] trilogy then it all looks pretty good to me.
News has also broken out that Obi-Wan Kenobi will appear in the series.
