This may not seem like a big deal, and I keep on saying how I’m tiring of all these comic book movies, but there are rumours afoot of something that could potentially scupper the new Fantastic Four movie. You see Marvel Comics is reportedly planning to cancel their Fantastic Four comic series. An artist working on Marvel 75th anniversary sketch cards claims that the team is not allowed to use characters such as Doctor Doom, Galactus and the Silver Surfer in their artwork. Elsewhere, Comic Book Resources has:
“Confirmed with multiple industry sources speaking on the condition of anonymity that a hiatus for the property is planned, at least as of recently. Plans can change, something that’s potentially more likely now that the situation has been made public,”.
Fox and Marvel Studios have clashed on the split film properties they control, with two different versions of Quicksilver appearing in X-Men: Days of Future Past and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. This doesn’t really explain why Marvel don’t want a Fantastic Four film to happen, though I find it bizarre that this will be the third time that a series about the characters has been attempted [anyone remember the cheapo Roger Corman co-produced one from the 90’s?]
The Fantastic Four reboot will be directed by Chronicle‘s Josh Trank with Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara, Miles Teller and Jamie Bell.
