I’ve always rated Kevin Costner as a great actor, and its been great seeing his career having a bit if a resurgence of late. A great performance in Man of Steel as Jonathan Kent kicked off Costner taking a big role in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and also a starring role in Three Days To Kill (released this Friday in UK cinemas). There is also the critically acclaimed Draft Day to come, and now it looks like Costner has a new, altogether darker project lined up.
Variety reports that the actor will explore his darker side in a new thriller from director Ariel Vromen called Criminal. Vromen previously wrote and directed the exceptional thriller The Iceman. Starring the always brilliant Michael Shannon in the true story about a mob hitman, the film was one of the best released in 2012.
Here is what Variety reports on Criminal:
JC Spink, Chris Bender Jake Weiner and Kevin King are producing. Christa Campbell, Lati Grobman, Jason Bloom, Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson and Mark Gill are exec produce. Douglas Cook and David Weisberg are writing the script, which revolves around a ruthless killer who, rather than spend the rest of his life in jail, chooses to be used in a medical experiment in which the brain of a recently murdered field operative is implanted in his head.
Millennium Films and Nu Image are behind the film. It has not been reported what specific role Costner would play.
