It was rumoured a short while ago that Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson may be getting set to direct Marvel’s Dr Strange, and now Variety is reporting that those talks have been taking place, and that Derrickson is about ready to sign to direct.
Derrickson pretty much confirmed the news by posting the below on Twitter, and Variety claim that while talks are still early, Derrickson is Marvel’s top choice, and a deal is expected to be struck shortly.

Marvel President Kevin Feige has been desperate to get a Dr Strange movie in the works for years, and it seems that the plan is for the movie to be part of Marvel’s Phase Three.
Feige will produce the feature, and executive producers on the project are Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Stephen Broussard. The film is being penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.
The comicbook revolved around a former neurosurgeon who serves as the “Sorcerer Supreme” — the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Strange made his first appearance in the 1963 comicbook series “Strange Tales” and would go on to have his own comicbook series and would appear in several other comicbooks that included “The Fantastic Four,” “Spider-Man” and “Nick Fury.”
Dr Strange is a former neurosurgeon who, after a car accident, loses the ability to use his hands. After exhausting every option to restore his health, Strange locates “the Ancient One” in the Himalayas who reluctantly teaches him the mystic arts. In comics, Doctor Stephen Strange is the “sorcerer supreme” of the Marvel Universe. As such, he is the gateway to an aspect of Marvel comics stories that hasn’t really been explored on film in the current set of Marvel movies.
Now that Strange is moving ahead, it is thought that casting will begin very shortly, but according to BadassDigest a name has already been rumoured as a possibility to play Dr Strange.
Per B.A.D: “Marvel likes (or liked, I don’t know what the current status of this is) Jared Leto for Stephen Strange.” Faraci adds, “God help us all if that’s true.”
