As Marvel plan out their movies for at least the next decade, Sony announced two Spider-Man sequels, Venom and Sinister Six movies, Fox continue on with X-Men and Fantastic Four, it seems that Warners and their DC universe are falling slightly behind.
All we know for sure is that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is coming out here in the UK on April 26th 2016, and that Zack Snyder will shoot the film back to back with the Justice League movie, which is due a year later. Apart from that, we are all expecting an official sequel to Superman (Batman v Superman is a prequel to Justice League), and there are a number of stand alone films in the pipeline, most notably Sandman which will be directed by, and star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Well, a schedule list for Warners’ plans has been discovered by Nikki Finke, and while Batman v Superman and Justice League have been confirmed, all the rest are speculation right now as Warners have not officially announced these dates. However, Finke is said to have reliable sources, and is well respected among the movie journalist community. Take these dates with grain of salt, but it is expected that Warners are planning to announce their schedule at next months ComicCon so it shouldn’t be long for the following list to either be confirmed or denied.
Here is the list:
May 2016 – Batman v Superman
July 2016 – Shazam
Xmas 2016 – Sandman
May 2017 – Justice League
July 2017 – Wonder Woman
Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up
May 2018 – Man Of Steel 2
Batman v Superman we all know about, and Sandman was announced last December, and naturally we all know that Justice League is coming. However, Shazam comes as a real surprise as it is the first time this film has been mentioned, although it has been in development hell of at least a decade. Wonder Woman is no surprise as Gal Gadot has agreed to a stand alone movie, and as for The Flash/Green Lantern movie, this is expected to be a reboot of sorts as Ryan Reynolds is not expected to return to play the title role.
The official sequel to Man of Steel is nice to see there, although that’s a mighty long wait don’t you think? However, where is Batman on this list?
Now, some juicy details were also revealed about cameos planned for Batman v Superman, and how Warners are planning to set up some other DC characters as they build on their world. The film was pushed back a few months, and the report by Finke has found the reason why:
Like Marvel’s The Avengers, there will be cameos of superheroes for future installments. The cameos will include the already known Cyborg and Flash. Green Lantern [not played by Ryan Reynolds, thank god] may be introduced. And Aquaman will be seen in the Justice League movie. Problem is, Warner Bros Pictures was still negotiating with the actors for those cameos and future roles, meaning major contracts for multiple JL/character films to follow. The studio didn’t want to move forward until they had more of this secure so they held off starting production for a few months. Seemingly simple reason, but the implications are pretty darn huge.
