Casting updates: John Goodman for JJ Abrams produced ‘Valencia’ and ‘M:I-5’ adds Alec Baldwin & Rebecca Ferguson

23rd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards

Some big casting news here today, so let’s get cracking!

John Goodman, the man who brings an immense amount of brilliance to any film, is in talks to star in the Bad Robot produced thriller Valencia. Bad Robot is the production company run by a certain JJ Abrams, so seeing these two together is surely going to generate some great results. In my opinion, put Goodman in anything and I will watch it!

Valencia is to be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, and will be produced by Bad Robot and Paramount Insurge. Trachtenberg is making the jump from short films to feature length films with Valencia, and has also been attached to direct New Line’s adaptation of comic book series Y: The Last Man.

The film is said to take place mostly in an underground cellar, following a young girl who loses consciousness in a car accident.

The girl – who is yet to be cast – awakes in the cellar with a mysterious man (Goodman), who tells her that the world has been devastated by a nuclear attack.

Swedish actor Rebecca Ferguson

Mission: Impossible 5

Newcomer Rebecca Ferguson (above), the Swedish actress currently seen in TV series The White Queen, and next to be seen in the Dwayne Johnson starring Hercules, is top of the list for the female lead of Mission: Impossible 5. Star Tom Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie and Paramount have all stated that they want Ferguson for the female role in the fifth film in the series, and Variety reports that she is nearing an offer to take the lead.

Plot details are being kept under wraps but sources say Ferguson’s character would be some sort of assassin. Drew Pearce penned the script.

The studio had originally looked at Jessica Chastain for the part but the actress could not commit to enough time for the shoot. Sources tell Variety that the studio wants Ferguson to begin training for the role sometime in June and work all the way through filming, which would go till the end of January.

Deadline also reports that Alec Baldwin (below) is also in talks to appear in Mission: Impossible 5.

Again plot details are being kept under wraps but sources say Baldwin’s character would be a high-ranking CIA officer who oversee Cruise’s division, similar to the role Laurence Fishburne had in Mission: Impossible III.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
