Comic-Con: Naughty Dog’s 2013 game, The Last of Us, to be adapted into feature film

More news out of Comic Con is that Sam Raimi and Song Screen Gems will be adapting Naughty Dog’s 2013 game, The Last of Us, into a film.

Raimi will produce and creative director at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, will pen the script, which is apparently expected to remain very true to its source material.

According to Deadline, Druckmann will appoint the director, which will not be Raimi, and the story will have a “laser focus” on the Joel and Ellie relationship, and some of the set pieces from the game could potentially find their way into the film.

Maisie Williams (Arya Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones“) has been mentioned as potentially in the role as a live action Ellie and Hugh Jackman and Josh Brolin have been the consensus fan favorites to play the role of Joel.

Here’s what Raimi said on the adaptation: “It’s gonna be a great character journey, a great love story, and great horror fiction.”

No other details have been released as of yet, including an expected release date.
