Here’s one very good reason to be excited about the new ‘Tremors’ movie

Last week director Don Michael Paul, director of Sniper 5: Legacy, Lake Placid: The Final Chapter and currently wrapping up work on Jarhead 2: Field of Fire, announced on his blog that he was prepping to start work on a new Tremors film. He stated:

After I finish up Company of Heroes: The Fourth Reich, I will be headed to Johannesburg, South Africa, to reboot the Tremors franchise for Universal. Big year ahead, and I’m excited to keep it going with the support of all you genre movie lovers out there.”

While nothing official has come since, and no plot details or cast have been announced, Moviehole did some digging, and discovered that the film will go into production under the working title Tremors 5, hinting that it might very well be  sequel and not a reboot.

They also discovered that actor Michael Gross will be returning as classic character Burt Grummer, the man who has appeared in every Tremors film, plus the TV series.

Here is what Moviehole reported:

The new film, currently casting for a September kick-off in South Africa (where quite a few of Universal’s recent direct-to-DVD sequels have been shot), is about as much a do-over as “Tron Legacy” or “Star Wars Episode VII”. In other words, it totally bows to the graboid of the original, and that includes paying respect to those who’ve previously done battle with the ‘mother hoppers’. So though there’s a couple of new, over-keen young cats in the film (with all their whiz-bang modern-day – didn’t have that in 1990 stuff – contraptions) there’s one big stout link to the original films – and that’s Burt Gummer (or ‘The Gummer’ as he’s nicknamed in this). And as if we’d want it any other way, Michael Gross is back to reprise the role of the heavily-armed monster-buster.

Just in case you have no idea what Tremors is (!!!!), here is the synopsis for the classic 1990 original, which starred Kevin Bacon.

Synopsis:

A small town gradually becomes aware of a strange creature which picks off people one by one. But what is this creature, and where is it? At the same time, a seismologist is working in the area, she detects _tremors_. The creature lives underground, and can ‘pop up’ without warning. Trapped in their town, the town-folk have no escape.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
