Marvel finally planning to bring ‘The Inhumans’ to Earth

Guardians of the Galaxy has proved that even lesser known characters will still make Marvel a shed load of money, and the incredible popularity of James Gunn’s awesome film has clearly improved Marvel’s thinking on other ‘dangerous’ choices.

The Inhumans is something that has been gestating at Marvel for quite a while, since 2011 in fact, and according to Collider, Marvel are now ready to move forward with the feature. The success of Guardians of the Galaxy can be thanked for this I guess.

A script has already been written by Joe Robert Cole, and the plan is to send out the script to directors, in the same way the Guardians of the Galaxy script was issued. When the Guardians of the Galaxy draft landed in James Gunn’s desk, he was able to adjust the script to his liking, but had to keep the characters and story structure unchanged. This same approach is said to be used for The Inhumans draft, which Marvel are said to be very pleased with, and are ready to send out to directors.

For those who don’t know who The Inhumans are, a script logline arrived on-line some time ago:

The Inhumans are aliens who were put on Earth as sleeper cell aliens to eventually call back their race to take over the planet. Ultimately, the group of aliens fully assimilates and don’t want to cause war.

Collider also provided a brief description: The Inhumans were created by alien experiments on primitive homo-sapiens. The alien race behind the experiments, the Kree, abandoned their work and the Inhumans went on to form a society of their own, which is led by the king Black Bolt and his family Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Triton, Crystal, Maximus the Mad, and the canine Lockjaw.

It has also been said that The Inhumans will take one of Marvel’s upcoming dates below:

  • Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015
  • Ant-Man on July 17, 2015
  • Captain America 3 on May 6, 2016
  • Untitled on July 8, 2016 (possibly Dr Strange)
  • Untitled on May 5, 2017
  • July 28, 2017- Guardians of the Galaxy 2
  • November 3, 2017
  • May 4, 2018
  • July 6, 2018
  • November 2, 2018
  • May 3, 2019

Vin Diesel has also dropped a massive tease that The Inhumans are coming, and that may be a part of it. On his Facebook page, he posted a picture of Groot, followed by the words:

Vin and Marvel… you all made it happen! I get the strange feeling that Marvel thinks I’m Inhuman… Haha.

The post was to thank fans for loving Guardians of the Galaxy, but to me that is one massive tease that Diesel has already had talks for The Inhumans. To further support this, last year Diesel teased that he was up for a 2017 Marvel movie with a “fresh IP”. To add even more weight to the rumour, via ComicBook, the following quote from Diesel hints that Marvel President Kevin Feige had plans for Diesel all along:

When I first got the call from Kevin Feige, he prefaced the call by saying ‘This is the strangest character Marvel has ever attempted.’ He said ‘Don’t answer me now, but instead of making the fans wait until 2017, there’s something that would be a brilliant idea, we think you could be the only person who could bring the emotion to this very challenging task. Don’t answer me Vin, don’t answer me, let me send over my conceptual art”

So basically, this was the call for Diesel to voice Groot, but what is the mystery around the 2017 movie, something Diesel also mentioned in his previous quote? Rumours are now saying that the 2017 Marvel movie is likely to be The Inhumans.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
