Marvel five minute look back video covers Phase I & II, and first official Thanos image released

So Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in cinemas this weekend, and I will have another report on how that film is smashing all expectations shortly, but for now we can celebrate the closing of Marvel’s Phase II as the next film to come from the superhero camp is The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will kick off Phase III.

In celebration of everything that has come throughout Phase I & II, Marvel have release a five minute look back video, which showcase some truly great films, and proves that Marvel and Disney are Kings right now. Things continue to improve too, and while many saw The Avengers as the highlight (me included for a while), Marvel have really kicked off into new and exciting directions of late. After The Avengers Marvel broke box office records with Iron Man 3, which surpassed $1 billion last year, yet I thought it was the weakest film in Phase II.

Thor: The Dark World was impressive, but for me it was Captain America: The Winter Soldier that really showed Marvel could improve, and the tone and menacing seriousness of The Winter Soldier really boosted the franchise, and really kicked my interest up a notch. Then came Guardians of the Galaxy, which I will review in due course, but for me is the best Marvel film yet.

In Guardians of the Galaxy we also finally get a good look at Thanos (voiced and performance captured by Josh Brolin) who will eventually become the big villain of the franchise. He was teased at the end of The Avengers, prompting fans to expect to see him as the main villain in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. I wasn’t to be, but Thanos is expected to be a huge presence in Phase III, controlling all the villains who cause The Avengers headaches.

Thanos’ ultimate goal is to collect all the Infinity Gems, which will eventually give him such incredible power, not even The Avengers will be able to stop him. We see his character much more in Guardians of the Galaxy, and the pieces begin to fall into place about just what kind of threat he is, and Brolin plays the villain superbly.

Marvel have now released an official image of the supervillain, and you can view it below, after the rather awesome five minute look back at Phase I & II.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
