Ask most horror fans, and chances are they love Rob Zombie’s earlier classics, House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects. While Zombie divided opinion with his take on Halloween, and then confused fans with the operatic (and quite brilliant) Lords of Salem. However, I am positive that if Zombie ever decided to direct what I guess would have to be a prequel to House of 1000 Corpses, fans would be extremely excited.
Turns out the idea has crossed Zombie’s mind, and he has even said he would love to make another film based around the antics of great characters like Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), Otis (Bill Moseley) and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie), AKA The Firefly family.
Zombie recently spoke with Fangoria, and said it was not him not wanting to make another film about the Firefly family, but it is a case of not owning the rights anymore:
“I’ve always thought I’d like to make another movie, because I love the characters, and I have an idea I think is solid for a third one – an idea that would make sense. The problem is, I don’t own the characters now. They’re owned by Lionsgate, and they just don’t have any desire to do anything. So it isn’t me not doing it because I don’t want to; I don’t have the ability to get it done.”
Now this is a shame, yet I am sure Lionsgate, who as we all know love their horror, would happily promote a third film?
