Leprechaun: Origins was expected to go straight to DVD, Blu-ray and VOD in the US, but a positive reception at the recent San Diego Comic-Con has prompted WWE Studios to give it a limited theatrical release as well. No UK dates have been announced yet.

Here is the announcement by WWE Studios regarding the films US release:

Lionsgate and WWE Studios announced today that Leprechaun: Origins, starring WWE® Superstar Dylan “Hornswoggle®” Postl, will have a limited theatrical run on August 22nd.

The announcement comes after an enthusiastic reception at this year’s Comic-Con, where fans were given a sneak peek at footage from the reimagined franchise. The move is intended to support promotional efforts during the film’s multi-platform release on August 26th for Digital HD, Video On Demand, and Pay-Per-View and September 30th on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD) and DVD (plus Digital).

Director Zach Lipovsky promised “The tone is going to be a little darker, a little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember, trying to find a way to please fans of that genre but at the same time this is really being played for scares.” The new trailer for the prequel certainly proves that, so check it out below, and the new poster can also be found below.

The films full cast includes WWE star Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl, who will be taking over the role of Warwick Davis as the vicious, vengeful Leprechaun, Stephanie Bennett, Teach Grant (The Tall Man, Devour, Repeaters, “Cult”), Bruce Blain (“Supernatural”), Adam Boys, and Brendan Fletcher (“The Killing, Freddy vs. Jason, 13 Eerie).

Synopsis:

Backpacking through the lush Irish countryside, two unsuspecting young couples discover a town’s chilling secret. Ben (Dunbar), Sophie (Bennet), David (Fletcher) and Jeni (Roxburgh) quickly discover the idyllic land is not what it appears to be when the town’s residents offer the hikers an old cabin at the edge of the woods. Soon, the friends will find that one of Ireland’s most famous legends is a terrifying reality.

The Pact 2:

IFC Midnight picked up US theatrical rights to THE PACT 2, the sequel to the box office hit THE PACT, written and directed by Dallas Hallam and Patrick Horvath. The film stars Camilla Luddington (True Blood, Grey’s Anatomy, Californication), Patrick Fischler (2 Guns, Mulholland Drive), Scott Michael Foster (Californication, Greek), Haley Hudson (The Pact, Freaky Friday), Mark Steger (The Pact, Mr. Jones, I Am Legend) and Caity Lotz (The Pact, The Machine). THE PACT 2 is produced by Preferred Film & TV’s Ross M. Dinerstein and executive produced by Content’s Jamie Carmichael and Nicholas McCarthy.

IFC Midnight acquired and released THE PACT after it premiered in Sundance in 2012. THE PACT 2 is a truly terrifying new film set just weeks after Annie Barlow’s deadly confrontation with the Judas Killer. In this elevated sequel, we meet June, a woman whose carefully constructed life is beginning to unravel due to lucid nightmares so awful they disturb her waking life.

Producer Ross Dinerstein said: “Dallas and Patrick did a tremendous job taking the world of THE PACT to the next level, and we are thrilled that IFC MIDNIGHT is back to distribute. THE PACT 2 will satisfy fans even more than the first one.”

The Pact 2 will be released in the US on VOD on September 5th, and then in limited cinemas on October 10th.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
