Of all the DC characters Warner Brothers have been talking about, it appears that Aquaman might well be the first movie released after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League.
While still not confirmed, Aquaman is rumoured to be appearing in Batman v Superman, but will almost certainly be seen in Justice League, and it is rumoured that Jason Momoa will be playing the super strong character.
Aquaman does not exactly have the best reputation in terms of DC characters, and he is often thought of as a bit of a joke, but director Zack Snyder intends to change all that. He recently called a Detroit radio talk show to confirm just how impressive a character Aquaman actually is:
“You guys were disparaging, a little bit, Aquaman…I don’t want to give anything away about the movie or anything like that but Aquaman has some cool abilities. People are like, “Oh what? Does he talk to animals? Cause that seems like what he does. Or fish?” The cool thing with Aquaman is his Trident. So you have to realize that could cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. That’s a thing that’s in the canon. He’s super strong cause of course he can exist at these super deep depths so when he comes up here he’s crazy strong. Anyway, not to say he’s in my movie or anything like that but he has the potential to be bad ass, that’s all I’m saying”
While the character is expected to be seen in Justice League, and possibly Batman v Superman, Warner Brothers have already set the ball in motion for a stand alone film. They are asking for two scripts, and the plan is to pick the best one out of the two, and probably use elements of the failed script in the winning script.
Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and Kurt Johnstad (300, 300: Rise of an Empire) have both been hired to write the Aquaman movie. Beall has some DC experience as he wrote the first draft for Justice League, which was discarded when David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio took over. Johnstad, on the other hand, has plenty of experience working with Zack Snyder as he wrote both 300 and its sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire.
Warners have already said they are actively looking to make a Wonder Woman movie too, so it is unclear which film will follow Justice League at this point.
