A couple of weeks ago it was reported that both the James Wan produced Demonic, and Franck Khalfoun’s (Maniac) new Amityville feature, Amityville: The Awakening, had been pulled indefinitely from The Weinstein’s released schedule.

This was a major double blow to the horror genre as both are extremely strong releases, and while we still don’t know exactly why Demonic was pulled, or when it will be released, Bloody Disgusting have found out some details on Khalfoun’s Amityville: The Awakening.

Per BD:

A source who wishes to remain anonymous explains that the studio held two separate screenings for Amityville: The Awakening (this I have confirmed), and the feedback was overwhelemingly positive.

The main issue audiences had with the Franck Khalfoun-directed sequel was with the ending, resulting in the Weinstein execs to order re-shoots. In additional to some additional photography (to spruce up the movie), the effects work was falling behind. The delay gives more time for post work, such as the VFX.

Lastly, the reason for the indefinite delay is that star Cameron Monaghan is in the middle of shooting the new season of “Shameless”, and his schedule is unclear.

Our multiple sources tell us that the plan is to finish everything after the November holiday and aim for a mid/late summer 2015 release.

Amityville: The Awakening is directed by Franck Khalfoun, and the cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as lead character Joan, a single mother who moves her three kids into the Amityville house. Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, and McKenna Grace also appear in the film.

Amityville: The Awakening is produced by Jason Blum, Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. Bob and Harvey Weinstein are Executive Producers. Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands wrote the script.

Synopsis:

Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
