Two major horror titles have been pulled from release by Dimension and The Weinstein’s, and at this moment in time there does not appear to be any plans for new release dates.
Franck Khalfoun’s (Maniac) high profile new Amityville film, Amityville: The Awakening (which released a superb trailer just last month), and the James Wan produced Demonic have both been pulled, and while no reason has been given, more worringly there has not been a new release date announced.
Amityville: The Awakening was due in UK cinemas on 1st January 2015, while Demonic was set to arrive even earlier on 12th December.
This is a massive blow for the horror genre. We will keep you updated, but for now while we try and deal with this devastating news, here is a reminder of what we will now be missing.
Amityville: The Awakening:
Amityville: The Awakening is directed by Franck Khalfoun, and the cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as lead character Joan, a single mother who moves her three kids into the Amityville house. Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, and McKenna Grace also appear in the film.
Amityville: The Awakening is produced by Jason Blum, Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. Bob and Harvey Weinstein are Executive Producers. Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands wrote the script.
Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.
The film is produced by James Wan and Lee Clay (BEAUTIFUL BOY) and directed by Will Canon (BROTHERHOOD). The script is based on an original idea of Wan’s.
Golden Globe nominated Maria Bello (A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE) stars as the lead female along with Frank Grillo (THE PURGE: ANARCHY).
The film centers on the aftermath of an horrific massacre where five college students were brutally murdered inside an abandoned home. Detective Mark Lewis and psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Klein question one of the few survivors, who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house, which was believed to be haunted. But what started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying.
