Not A Number Productions and Grimm Entertainment have announced the Manchester premiere of WHITE SETTLERS on Monday 15th September at Manchester’s The Dancehouse, and Q&A screenings until September 23rd at Dancehouse and The Small Cinema.

WHITE SETTLERS is a film from the organisers of Manchester’s Grimmfest, a highly respected and established horror brand with national recognition, and the first production to be released under their new distribution arm, Grimm Entertainment.

WHITE SETTLERS is a glowing example of the overriding passion for horror that Grimm display, having carried out UK distribution on a shoestring budget, a fraction that bigger companies are afforded. WHITE SETTLERS was produced in the Northwest and shot in the Peak District, while post-production was handled at Timeline North at MediaCity UK. Citing a ‘major lack of support for small indie UK films seeking exposure’, Grimm have had to rely on savvy social media use to generate buzz around WHITE SETTLERS, most notably #indyrefhorror, which began to circulate on Twitter following previews from The Guardian and The Scotsman. Dubbed the ‘Scottish Referendum Horror’ by these publications, due to it’s plot and timing of release, WHITE SETTLERS is nevertheless a Mancunian labour of love, the first of many productions distributed by Grimm Entertainment.

Starring Pollyanna McIntosh (The Woman, Love Eternal, Filth), Lee Williams (No Night Is Too Long, The Tudors) and Joanne Mitchell (Before Dawn, Shortcuts To Hell), WHITE SETTLERS is a terrifying suspense thriller about an English couple who decide to leave the big city rat race behind in search of cheap property in the Scottish Borders, taking place over the course of one incredibly tense night.

It’s Ed and Sarah’s first night at their new home, an isolated farmhouse. This should be a new beginning away from their stressful London lives. And at first it is; come sunset they fall in love all over again as they wander in the beautiful Scottish landscape. But as darkness falls, Sarah suspects they’re not alone, Ed goes to investigate and quickly, the evening becomes a nightmare. It suddenly dawns on them; they do not belong here. And they’re certainly not welcome.

WHITE SETTLERS is directed by Simeon Halligan and written by Scottish screenwriter Ian Fenton, inspired by the rich history of cross-border conflicts from the time of the Border Reivers in the region where Fenton lived. Set against a backdrop of political debate leading up to the Scottish independence referendum on September 18th 2014, whilst not a political film, the psychological thriller has been described as the ‘Scottish Referendum Horror’.
