Intelligent, thought provoking and terrifying trailer for ‘Ex Machina’ delivers sci-fi greatness


Alex Garland is a well known name in the movie business, and the writer of 28 Days Later, Dredd and Sunshine, plus producer of 28 Weeks Later and Dredd, finally makes his directorial debut with Ex Machina.

The first trailer landed tonight, and as expected, it looks magnificent. This is intelligent sci-fi that actually has some weight behind its plot, some big ideas and some terrifying outcomes. The film is your usual A.I themed thriller, but with Garland in charge, this will be something new, inventive and very exciting. The trailer hints at some really impressive ideas, and some thrilling and chilling moments, so check it out below.

EX MACHINA is an intense psychological thriller in which Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson), a 24 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a retreat belonging to the company’s reclusive CEO, Nathan (Oscar Isaac). But when Caleb arrives he finds that he will have to participate in a fascinating experiment with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot woman, Ava (Alicia Vikander). Truths, emotions and motives are blurred as the relationship between Caleb, Ava and Nathan intensifies.

Written and directed by Alex Garland and starring Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander, EX MACHINA will open in UK cinemas 23rd January 2015.
