Professor Brian Cox Named UK’s Number One Time-Travel Companion

Science boffin, Professor Brian Cox, has been voted the UK’s number one time-travel companion beating the likes of ex-Doctor Who David Tenant, survival experts Bear Grylls and Ray Mears and X-Factor queen, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini to the top spot.

The survey, commissioned by Universal Channel to celebrate the launch of Sleepy Hollow Season 2 where 18th century hero Ichaboad Crane is transported through time to modern day America, saw William Shakespeare top the poll of historical figures people would most like to meet, with 30% of respondents voting for a personal introduction with the bard. Marilyn Monroe, Einstein, Churchill and Elvis completed the top 5 on the historical hit list.

Sleepy Hollow returns to Universal Channel on Wednesday 15 October at 9pm, and patient fans will find out the answers to the nail-biting cliffhangers that kept viewers guessing at the end of Season One. Could Ichabod possibly survive being buried alive; and how can his straight talking, police-officer companion, Abbey, escape from purgatory in order to save Sleepy Hollow (and the world!) from unprecedented evil and stop the Horsemen of the Apocalypse?

The study of 2,000 Brits found that 1 in 3 believe that time travel will be possible within the next 100 years and 84% of the population would love to time travel given the chance. However, the adventurous nature of the nation is not that great as 8 out of 10 people would miss their home comforts, finding it difficult to live without the internet, iPhones and central heating. But when it comes down to the ultimate ‘can’t live without’ item, all top tech was usurped by the most humble of essentials … toilet roll.

Researchers found that the event people would most like to travel back in time to see would be the end of WWII, polling nearly 30% of votes, closely followed by seeing England’s sporting glory year; winning the World Cup in 1966 with 20%.

Researchers who investigated the notion of time travel with the British public found that far from relishing the luxuries and technology of modern Britain, it transpires that people love nostalgia and voted the 1960s as the best decade for music, fashion and the one period in time people would most like to travel back to.

The survey was run to coincide with the return of Sleepy Hollow on Wednesday 15 October at 9pm on Universal Channel.

Season 2 of Sleepy Hollow continues on Wednesday 29 October at 9pm, exclusively to Universal Channel.

I love practical effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: Tembo: The Badass Elephant, Yakuza Zero and Payday 2.
