Back in July I was extremely happy to post the first trailer for the insane looking new found footage horror with a difference, Cybernatural, and now comes news that Universal has nabbed US rights to the film.
Fingers crossed then that the UK get a distribution deal soon.
Universal Pictures has acquired horror-thriller “Cybernatural” and has set an April 10 release date for the US.
The film, unfolds over a teen girl’s computer screen as she and her friends are stalked by an unseen figure who seeks vengeance for a shaming video that led a bully to kill herself a year prior.
Universal executives bought “Cybernatural” after a test screening in Montreal. WME Global brokered the deal on behalf of the filmmakers.
The film was developed and conceived by Timur Bekmambetov and directed by Levan Gabriadze from a script by Nelson Greaves. Producers are Bekmambetov and Greaves, as well as Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions.
Blum, who developed the low-budget “Paranormal Activity,” “Purge” and “Insidious” franchises, signed a 10-year first-look deal with Universal this summer.
Produced by Timur Bekmambetov and directed by Leo Gabriadze, Cybernatural stars Shelley Hennig, Moses Storm, Renee Olstead, Will Peltz, Jacob Wysocki, Courtney Halverson, Heather Sossaman
Timur Bekmambetov presents CYBERNATURAL — a new experience in horror — an acknowledgement that the terrors of modern life no longer take place in forests or graveyards, but on the screens we stare at for hours every day.
The horrors are many… Sites where teens can anonymously cyberbully their peers… Sites where angry lovers can post nude photos of their exes… Sites encouraging the victimized to kill themselves… Sites where those victimized post videos of their suicides for others to see. To copy… And of course… sites where you can reach out to those dead. Where you can conjure them…
CYBERNATURAL is the first of its kind. A first-person exploration of the terrors of our connected experience…
