News broke last night that Channing Tatum was being eyed for a minor but important role in Quentin Tarantino’s new Western, The Hateful Eight. The Weinsteins have now confirmed Tatum’s involvement in the film by not only releasing a brand new, and more detailed synopsis, but also a list of the key cast names in the film.
The cast has been rumoured for some time, with most of them taking part in a reading of the films script earlier this year, but now we have an official cast list, and it’s a good one.
The synopsis is also more detailed, and slightly changed from the original synopsis revealed when the film was announced. This is due to Tarantino re-writing the script a number of times after it leaked.
The key cast names can be seen below, but along with the announcement of who the major players were, The Weinsteins also confirmed that Tatum will indeed be appearing in the film, but would not reveal any details.
Here are the key cast names of the film, and who they will be playing:
1. Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren
2. Kurt Russell as John “The Hangman” Ruth
3. Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Domergue
4. Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix
5. Demian Bichir as Bob
6. Tim Roth as Oswaldo Mobray
7. Michael Madsen as Joe Gage
8. Bruce Dern as General Sanford Smithers
The Hateful Eight will go into production as expected early 2015, and the Weinstein’s are looking to release the film later that year. It was announced a while ago that the film will have the biggest 70mm release in 20 years, and while it has not been confirmed if all cinemas will be presenting the film in this format, it does appear that the film will first be released in 70mm, and then released on DCP and 35mm shortly after.
The Hateful Eight is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Here is the official synopsis:
In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…
