Guillermo del Toro, arguably the busiest man in the movies, has been secretly working on a script for his adaptation of Justice League Dark, and has been for well over a year. Titled Dark Universe, del Toro said back in February 2013 that he was writing a script with the hope to turn it in to Warners Brothers soon.
That day has now come, and he told Forbes yesterday that the script was finished, and that it had been handed in to Warner Brothers this week!
Warners reaction to the script is expected to come shortly after the Thanksgiving Holiday is over, so we could know their intentions as early as next week. However, should Warners like the script, then it could pose an problem to del Toro’s schedule. He is currently in post-production on his haunted house horror Crimson Peak, and is set to go into production on Pacific Rim 2 early next year.
So if Justice League Dark does get the go ahead, it could still be a way off, although it has been a passion project for del Toro for years:
”That roster, you’re talking about my childhood,” del Toro said last year.. “Swamp Thing, for me, is a rock star. Demon, the Jack Kirby Demon, Etrigan, is amazing. And then you go to Constantine, who I thought was an amazing creation. I want to do the Constantine of the comics. Deadman… it’s really a lot of work but a lot of fun.”
He continued “I’d love to use the origins that are proper to each character. I love the idea of Jason Blood as a paladin and a knight…. I love the entire Constantine mythology, the Dead Man mythology, the Alex Holland Swamp Thing mythology. These are really rich things to well, and to dig.”
More on this as it develops.
