Back in October is was rumoured that Tom Hardy may be playing the role of Apocalypse in the latest X-Men film directed by Bryan Singer, but now the person playing the main villain role has been confirmed, and it is equally exciting news.

Variety confirms that Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac will play the chief villain role in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Variety adds that while other actors were considered, Isaac was an early favorite and served as the prototype for the kind of actor director Bryan Singer was looking for.

Bryan Singer is directing X-Men: Apocalypse.

Singer has described the upcoming X-Men film, which is expected to feature all cast members including Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy, as the most destructive movie in the franchise.

“‘Apocalypse’ will have more of the mass destruction that ‘X-Men’ films, to date, have not relied upon,” he recently said. “There’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle.”

Singer also suggested that “Apocalypse,” set in the 1980s, could feature younger versions of familiar characters.

“I call these movies in-between-quels. It’s a mind-f**k sometimes in terms of where things fall in the timeline.”

Fox will release the film on May 27, 2016.

Here’s how Marvel.com describe the Apocalypse story:

In the harsh, unforgiving desert of ancient Egypt, ruled by Rama-Tut, a band of nomadic raiders found an infant, gray-skinned and freakish in appearance, abandoned by the settlers of Akkaba. The nomads took the child for their own, giving him the name En Sabah Nur, “The First One,” and teaching him to be “strong” in order to survive the desert as a child.

In recent years, Apocalypse was somehow awakened by the arrival of Cyclops’ son from the future, Cable. Apocalypse made another move against Cyclops and his team, X-Factor, by pitting them against a team of his own creation, the Alliance of Evil. Although he never used his Alliance again, Apocalypse soon formed the Horsemen of Apocalypse to plague humankind, when his ideas to “cull” humanity in order for the rise of mutant supremacy were beginning.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
