Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick’s superb found footage shocker, The Blair Witch Project, broke records when released in 1999. It also kickstarted a resurgence in the found footage horror genre.
The film spawned an awful sequel, but talk of a third film has been around for years. Now, according to Sanchez, the third film is getting very close to becoming a reality.
Sanchez recently worked with Lionsgate (who released the film on DVD here in the UK) on his latest found footage horror, Exists, and it seems that things are about to get moving on the much anticipated Blair Witch 3.
He told Dread Central:
“We have been talking to Lionsgate and there has been a little bit of movement but nothing is concrete. The film seems inevitable to me, but really it’s just a matter of it being the right time. I’m thinking it’s going to happen sooner than later at this point, but I always say that. There’s always rumblings and certain ideas being pushed around and such. While I don’t have anything firm to talk about now, it wouldn’t surprise me if something happened within the next year or two.”
The third film has been teased for years, so I wouldn’t go getting to excited just yet. Still, good to know the third film is still being talked about.
