The official ‘Ant-Man’ trailer has arrived, and we also have twenty screenshots to enjoy!

As promised, Marvel’s first official trailer for Ant-Man arrived late last night, and you can view the two minute tease below.

I say tease because the trailer is pretty slow moving, with a rousing speech from Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, with some intense music and a overall pretty serious, and dare I say dangerous tone. There are some interesting special effects shots later on after all the more human themed bits, and seeing Paul Rudd riding an Ant in chaotic effects looks really cool.

There is no mention of the films main villain Yellowjacket, although he does appear in the trailer in his normal human form, but there is a sense of a thrilling spectacle awaiting, and I am sure the next trailer will expand on the films crazy ideas of a man reducing to the size of an Ant. Right at the end Paul Rudd cracks a joke about changing the name of Ant-Man, and this moment of comedy is said to be more of what the films tone will be like, so I am guessing another Guardians of the Galaxy type film?

It is doubtful Ant-Man will reach the insane coolness of Guardians of the Galaxy, but it would have had Edgar Wright’s original script been kept. Sadly Wright and Joe Cornish’s script was re-written by Adam McKay and Paul Rudd, and the original writers of the film are now simply credited as “story by”, so there will still be the feeling that Ant-Man could always have been better, but this is what we have now, and on the basis of this first trailer, I am really looking forward to it.

Set for release in the UK on July 17, 2015, the film is directed by Peyton Reed (“Bring it On,” “The Break-Up”) and stars Paul Rudd (“I Love You Man,” “Role Models”) as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas (“Behind The Candelabra,” “Wall Street”) as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly (“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” “Lost”) as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym.

Based on the Marvel comic character first published in 1962, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in Marvel’s “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the upcoming Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

Here are the key characters and who will be playing them:

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.

Here’s the brand new synopsis:

The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
