Last year we saw the superb first trailer for Amityville: The Awakening, the latest Amityville film this time directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac). The trailer was impressive, but just as the films release date was announced, it was suddenly pulled.
Reports said that test screenings were incredibly positive, but the ending needed re-shooting, some of the effects work needed some improvements, and by this point actor Cameron Monaghan was in the middle of shooting the US version of Shameless, meaning he wasn’t available for any re-shoots.
Producer Jason Blum recently told Arrow in the Head that the film is well on track, and that fans need not worry, and that a release date will be announced very soon. Here is what Blum had to say about the films progress:
“We’re still in post on it,” Blum tells the site. “I’m very, very happy with it. We’re continuing to have conversations with Dimension and Weinstein about how it’s going to come out, but it’s definitely going to come out. I think people are going to like it, Jennifer Jason Leigh is great in the movie. I’m hoping to do another movie with Franck. I’m really pleased with it, my guess is we’ll announce when it’ll come out sometime in the next twelve months. Like a lot of the movies that we do, we’re just tinkering with it and trying to make it better. We’re pretty close now. We went back and forth over the cut of the movie, which we’re happy with now. We’re just tinkering with the movie in post-production.”
Amityville: The Awakening is directed by Franck Khalfoun, and the cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as lead character Joan, a single mother who moves her three kids into the Amityville house. Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, and McKenna Grace also appear in the film.
Amityville: The Awakening is produced by Jason Blum, Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. Bob and Harvey Weinstein are Executive Producers. Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands wrote the script.
