Fox acquires rights to giant space monster sci-fi ‘The Leviathan’

Just last week Irish director Ruairi Robinson’s proof of concept video, The Leviathan, took over the Internet. The three minute video was a massive hit on Youtube and also attracted 1.2 million viewers on Vimeo. Almost instantly, director Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie, Alien 5) and writer/ producer Simon Kinberg (producer: Elysium, X-Men: Days pf Future Past, Fantastic Four) came onboard to produce a full length feature, if it ever got the greenlight.

Those who saw the short film knew that a feature length version would get picked up and signed off very quickly, because let’s face it, The Leviathan looks incredible. Now, within a week, Fox have come along and picked up the film rights, and Robinson will be directing the full length feature.

Not only that, but Fight Club screenwriter Jim Uhls will be writing the screenplay for the massive sci-fi project.

The film is described as Moby Dick in space! The proof of concept video can be found below, in case you missed it last week.

Mankind has colonized many worlds in a time when travel faster than the speed of light has been made possible by the harvesting of exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those who take part in the hunt for the matter are mostly involuntary labor.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
