Casting a new actor to play The Joker was always going to be difficult, and how anyone would be brave enough to follow on from Heath Ledger’s legacy is fascinating. Jared Leto is the extremely brave man who is going to do it, and naturally fans are interested to see what Leto can pull off.
He’s a great actor, and deservedly won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar last year for Dallas Buyers Club, and now he will bring his talents to the DC world. What can we expect to see from Leto as The Joker?
A fan asked Suicide Squad director David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch) to sum up Let’s Joker in just one word, and that word was “majestic”. You will find the Tweet below.
Also included below are a number of set pictures posted on Twitter by Ayer (who is well known for posting tons of updates).
David Ayer (End of Watch, Sabotage, Fury) will write and direct.
Warner Bros. president Greg Silverman said in a statement: “The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
Charles Roven (Man of Steel) is producing, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson, and Geoff Johns onboard as executive producers.
Here is how the line-up of actors now looks:
Jared Leto – The Joker
Will Smith – Deadshot
??? – Rick Flag
Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn
Jai Courtney – Boomerang
Cara Delevingne – Enchantress
Viola Davis – Amanda Waller
Jesse Eisenberg – Lex Luthor (rumoured)
Star Margot Robbie opened up to MTV about her thoughts on the Suicide Squad film:
“I think on a scale of like, The Dark Knight is here and The Avengers is here, I think it’s more on the Dark Knight side of things.”
Actress Viola Davis will play Suicide Squad Nick Fury type character Amanda Waller, and she recently spoke to THR about her thoughts on DC comic books:
“As a comic book and Wonder Woman fan, I love the whole DC Comics universe. I traded comic books as a kid so all of that appeals to me. When you dream about being an actor as a kid, that’s what you dream about. That’s like play acting: being the superhero, getting the gun; it plays into that fantasy. How to Get Away with Murder changed my exposure. I don’t know if it changed the quality of roles as much as it changed the exposure. I mean certainly Amanda Waller is a fabulous character.”
