Last week a proof of concept trailer landed on-line for director Ruairi Robinson’s (The Last Days on Mars) The Leviathan, and within a week the sensational three minute tease has notched up 1.2 million views on Vimeo, and hundreds of thousands on Youtube. Needless to say a movie version is now in the works.
Deadline reports that Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie) and Simon Kinberg (producer of Elysium, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Fantastic Four) have signed on to produce a feature length version of the Leviathan, with Jim Uhls (Fight Club) writing the screenplay.
The three minute video can be viewed below, and I am sure you’ll agree with me that this looks incredible, and I want to see the full movie version now! Right now, please!!!
A slew of big name producers had been lining up to meet with Robinson to pitch for the project but were blown out of the water once Kinberg moved decisively. Kinberg’s first-look deal with Fox also gives Robinson potential studio backing should they decide to move forward. In the event of Fox passing, however, there will likely be no shortage of takers for the high concept story set in the early 22nd century.
Mankind has colonized many worlds in a time when travel faster than the speed of light has been made possible by the harvesting of exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those who take part in the hunt for the matter are mostly involuntary labor.
