Neill Blomkamp says Alien 5’s title would give away too much, Prometheus 2 forced changes in his ideas

Not a lot of people saw Chappie, but those who did will tell you that it was actually rather good. However, now that director Neill Blomkamp has that out of the way he can concentrate on Alien 5, his biggest film yet.

It’s great to see the hype and excitement around Alien 5 even though Chappie tanked at the box office, and many (for some weird reason) hated Elysium, so it proves that even though Blomkamp hasn’t won over fans of District 9 fully yet, people still have faith in him. Personally, I think he will do a fine job with Alien 5, but it seems that his ideas have had to change slightly based on what Alien director Ridley Scott has planned for Prometheus 2.

In an interview with Empire, Blomkamp stated that he has shared his Alien ideas with Scott, who in turn is very happy with his plans. We already know that Blomkamp wants his film to take place after Aliens, but it seems that his ideas may have interfered with Scott’s plans for his Prometheus sequel (which Scott will write and produce).

I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping ‘Prometheus’ a little bit. One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make”

Blomkamp also backed up his earlier claim that Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection were not part of his Alien 5 plans:

“Where it went after ‘Aliens’ to me, as a fan, was wrong,” he says adding, “There’s a shitload missing as a fan that I would want to see.”

He then discussed the title of Alien 5, something we as fans are not allowed to know yet as it will be a major spoiler:

I sent what I wanted as the title to Ridley, It’s kinda quite bold, and he was like, ‘I really like that. So I’m gonna test it, I don’t think it’s gonna work, though.’ I have my own idea but it gives away too much if I say the title. But in the event that it doesn’t work, I’m dead in the water…”

Sigourney Weaver will reprise her role as Ripley in the new Alien film, and there has been talk of Michael Biehn returning as Hicks. Naturally we will update on this film as soon as more info becomes available.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
