Nicolas Winding Refn’s horror ‘The Neon Demon’ starts filming, official synopsis released

Nicolas Winding Refn is loved here at HCF. The visionary filmmaker has created some of our most loved pieces of art over the years: films like Valhalla Rising, Only God Forgives, Bronson and of course the stunning Drive, Refn has proved himself time and time again.

His new film, The Neon Demon, see’s the director finally venture into the horror genre, and personally I am very, very excited. In fact, I am close to bursting point to see what the skilled director can do for our beloved genre.

Refn previously said about the film:

“One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty. After making DRIVE and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of THE NEON DEMON.”

Filming has now begun on The Neon Demon, and a full cast list and synopsis have now finally been released.

The film stars Elle Fanning, Jena Malone, Karl Glusman, Bella Heathcote, Abbey Lee, Desmond Harrington, Christina Hendricks, and Keanu Reeves. It is being produced by Space Rocket Nation’s Lene Borglum in association with Wild Bunch and Gaumont.

Refn said recently about the film: “I very much look forward to the odyssey I’ll be taking with all these wonderful actresses (and a few guys) to travel beyond The Neon Demon where all I see is the wicked dying young.”

Official synopsis:

When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
