A couple of weeks ago we discovered that Tron 3: Ascension would film between October this year, and February 2016 in Vancouver.
We also learnt that Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski would be returning to direct.
Garrett Hedlund was rumoured to also be returning, but now THR have confirmed that not only will Hedlund return, but so will Olivia Wilde.
In Legacy, Hedlund played Sam, the Son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges). Wilde played ISO Quorra.
Legacy was the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi film that took place inside a computer world known as the Grid and starred Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner. While not a hit at the time, it later drew a big cult following and became an influence on filmmakers and pop culture.
The plot details for Ascension have not yet been revealed, but there are reports saying that the third Tron film will follow on from the ending of Legacy, which saw Sam Flynn and Quorra leave the ‘Grid’.
The Ascension part of the title will be a reference to not just Sam and Quorra being able to leave the Grid, but other entities will be leaving and heading to Earth, so this does sound quite interesting.
More on this as it develops.
