Blumhouse confirm US release dates for ‘Amityville: The Awakening’ and ‘Viral’


Ever since the first trailer for Franck Khalfoun’s Amityville: The Awakening was release, fans have been desperate to find out when the bloody hell we can see it.

The original release date was cancelled late last year, with no future date in sight, and this was extremely upsetting as the trailer was incredible. Thankfully if you live in the US all your worries are over, because Blumhouse have announced on Twitter exactly when the film will be heading to your cinemas. Hopefully there are plans for the UK to follow shortly after.

Blumhouse have also confirmed that the title is Amityville: The Awakening, NOT The -Re-Awakening as was previously reported:

Not only that, but Blumhouse also announced the release date for Viral, the latest found footage horror from directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3 & 4). Here is the Tweet, followed by all the info you need on the two horror flicks:

Amityville: The Awakening

Amityville: The Awakening is directed by Franck Khalfoun, and the cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as lead character Joan, a single mother who moves her three kids into the Amityville house. Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, and McKenna Grace also appear in the film.

Amityville: The Awakening is produced by Jason Blum, Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. Bob and Harvey Weinstein are Executive Producers. Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands wrote the script. The film arrives in US cinemas on 15th April 2016.


Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.


Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, Viral stars Sophia Black De’lia and Analeigh Tipton.

Viral arrives in US cinemas on 19th February 2016.


A teenage girl begins a video documentary about her life for a school project just as a terrifying virus sweeps through her small town. Quarantined with her family, she thinks they are out of harm’s way, but she soon learns that the virus has invaded their house. Her video documents the family’s frantic struggle to find a cure before they are completely taken over by the outbreak.
