Horror clips: ‘Poltergeist’ and ‘Insidious: Chapter 3’ bring the Friday night scares

Two horror clips have been released on this spooky Friday night.

First comes a clip from the upcoming Poltergeist remake, and it delivers a familiar jump scare that we have seen in hundreds of horror films before, and the payoff has been seen in the numerous trailers and TV spots.

Second comes a more grounded, talky clip from Insidious: Chapter 3 where Lin Shaye does her best to explain the dangers of The Further.

Poltergeist:

Gil Kenan (Monster House) directs the reboot, which arrives in cinemas on 22nd May.

Jared Harris (Fringe, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Mad Men, The Quiet Ones) star as Carrigan, a larger than life TV personality who left the world of academia behind to become the star host of basic cable TV show “Haunted House Cleaners”.

Rosemarie DeWitt, Sam Rockwell, Kyle Catlett, Saxon Sharbino, Nicholas Braun, and Jane Adams also star in a revisionist take on the classic horror film.

Kenan directs from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz: The Great and Powerful). The film is being produced by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) and Rob Tapert (The Posession) via Ghost House Pictures, along with Roy Lee (The Strangers). Nathan Kahane (The Grudge) will serve as executive producer.

Synopsis:

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.

Insidious: Chapter 3:

Leigh Whannell writes and directs Insidious: Chapter 3.

Insidious: Chapter 3 stars Dermot Mulroney (of August: Osage County) and Stefanie Scott (of Blumhouse’s upcoming Jem and the Holograms) alongside Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Mr. Whannell, with the latter trio reprising their roles from the first two movies in the franchise.

In Insidious: Chapter 3, a twisted new tale of terror begins for a teenage girl and her family, predating the haunting of the Lambert family in the earlier movies and revealing more mysteries of the otherworldly realm The Further.

Focus Features will release Insidious: Chapter 3 in UK cinemas on Friday, 5th June, 2015. eOne will distribute the picture in Canada, U.K., and Spain; and Sony will distribute the picture in the rest of the world. Jason Blum of Blumhouse, who produced both previous movies in the series, is producing the next installment with returning producer Oren Peli and franchise co-creator James Wan, who directed the two earlier films written by Mr. Whannell with story by Mr. Wan and Mr. Whannell. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Steven Schneider, Charles Layton, and Xavier Marchand are executive-producing Insidious: Chapter 3.

Insidious, released in 2011, and Insidious: Chapter 2, released in 2013, grossed a combined $257 million worldwide.

Synopsis:

The newest chapter in the terrifying horror series is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
