‘Mission: Impossible 6’ shooting next year? ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ sequel on the way?

The reviews so far for Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation, are very positive indeed, and as the films have continued to be more popular at the box office, it makes sense that a sixth film would be greenlit.

However, it’s been three and a half years since the awesome Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol, but it now seems likely that a sixth film in the series could be in cinemas as early as 2017, just two years away!

While doing press rounds, star Tom Cruise was interviewed on The Daily Show by Jon Stewart, and he revealed that Mission: Impossible 6 is happening, and that work has already begun:

“We’re starting to work on it now,” Cruise said. “We’ll probably start shooting it next summer.”

We are assuming this “we” does not include director of Rogue Nation, Christopher McQuarrie as Cruise has stated he likes working with different directors on each Mission: Impossible film. However, after Rogue Nation and also Jack Reacher, Cruise and McQuarrie appear to have built up a strong friendship working together, so maybe McQuarrie will be the first Mission: Impossible director to come back for a second outing?

In another piece of exciting Cruise news (!!) the star was briefly interviewed by MTV at the New York premiere of Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation, and he revealed that a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow may also be in development.

Edge of Tomorrow is yet another film Cruise and McQuarrie worked on together, with McQuarrie this time writing.

Cruise told MTV that he had an idea for a sequel, and that he had already pitched his idea:

“I pitched it to McQuarrie and Doug. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it,”

He would not reveal any story details, but he did reveal that he had spoken with co-star of the first film Emily Blunt, and that she said “give me another year, please”.

“It could be so much fun,” he said. “Gotta get Emily. I was like Emily, please. She was like, ’give me another year, please.’”

So who knows, maybe the sixth Mission: Impossible film starts shooting next year, and immediately after we will have Edge of Tomorrow 2 to look forward to as well?

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
