Star Wars news just keeps on flooding in, and we can’t keep up with it all on HCF what with all these films we review, but we can happily confirm that the proposed Han Solo film, which isn’t due until 2018, will also feature Chewbacca. Disney chief Bob Iger confirmed the news at the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference yesterday [via The Wrap] where he discussed various upcoming projects. We already knew this about the next Star Wars film to come out:
“Rogue One is about a band of rebels plotting to steal the plans to the Death Star. It takes place right before what was George Lucas‘s first film, which came out in 1977 and is now called A New Hope.”
However, he then went on to say:
“We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy. And that’ll come after ‘Star Wars 8’ in 2018. And then there’ll be possibly be more thereafter.”
Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew recently teased a special announcement that he has yet to make, and it’s possible that he was referring to Chewbacca’s return in the Han Solo film. This ‘origin story’ doesn’t have a title yet, but we do know that it’s being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller [The Lego Movie, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs].
The best question is: who can fill Harrison Ford’s shoes?…
