A small interesting one this for fans of the 80’s smash Who Framed Roger Rabbit!
Director Robert Zemeckis was taking questions over his latest film SULLY starring Tom Hanks when he was asked the possibility of a Roger Rabbit sequel. Now the original film which was released over 30 years ago (would you believe) is still one of the most cherished films of all time, with Jessica Rabbit herself becoming a huge cult icon. Interesting, Zemeckis has admitted that he has the “perfect script” ready for a follow up, but admits that he can never see it happening!
The people to blame are DISNEY, who own the rights and he believes that there is just no interest within the studio.
“The current corporate Disney culture has no interest in Roger, and they certainly don’t likes Jessica at all”. He admitted which makes me scream “WHO DOESN’T LIKE JESSCIA!?”.
The sequel would have been set in the 50’s and would have been a continuation of the story that started in the original. Lead Star Bob Hoskins who sadly passed away in 2014 would have been digitally included into the film, instead of the role being recast.
And what about Back To The Future? another franchise that people always ask “will there be a remake!. In 2015 Zemeckis put out this strong statement that the films are finished and there are no more stories to tell!
“That can’t happen until both Bob and I are dead. And then I’m sure they’ll do it, unless there’s a way our estates can stop it.
“I mean, to me, that’s outrageous. Especially since it’s a good movie. It’s like saying ‘Let’s remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?’ What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?”
Producer Frank Marshall yesterday confirmed that is the case!
“Yeah, as long as I have my say it’s safe. That one exists just like ET – we’re never touching those.”
So there you have it!
