I’ll admit that this is the first I’ve heard of this, but apparently a sequel to David Cronenberg’s very fine gangster drama has been mooted for some time. Writer Steven Knight mentioned that he had written one back in 2014 saying: “I can say the script for the second one is much better that the first. Honestly it’s one of the things I’ve written that I most like and it’s driving me mad… so I’ve got to get it made. It’s written and it works, so watch this space“,
Cronenberg later said that it was “dead”. Anyway, it’s now definitely going to happen, according to My Entertainment World where the title is listed as Body Cross [which makes it sound a bit like an older-style Cronenberg film]. The sequel will follow:
“The incompetent underboss Kirill thinking that he and his henchman driver Nikolai really have inherited the throne from his crime-lord father, but Nikolai is actually a clandestine agent working undercover in Russia’s federal security service.”
Filming is set to commence March this year, and Viggo Mortensen, which was released in 2007. We don’t yet if Cronenberg will be directing. So far he’s never done a sequel, but I have a feeling he may be up for this….
