Though neither film was a box office smash, the two Hellboy films soon picked up a strong following and I loved them myself. A possible third film has been mentioned several times and director Guillermo Del Toro and star Ron Perlman were obviously both well up for it. However, Del Toro tweated yesterday:
“Hellboy 3 Sorry to report: Spoke with all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it”.
Which does sound very final indeed. However, soon after that Hellboy creator Mike Mignola tweeted:
“No GDT Hellboy 3 does not mean there is no future to the Hellboy franchise”.
So it’s possible that he wanted to take the franchise in a different direction to what Del Toro wanted, and Del Toro walked. Who knows? I’m sure all will become clear in due course. If a sequel does go ahead, Perlman doesn’t want any part of it, tweeting:
“That’s true Mike. Just No”.
So if we do get anything it’ll be without Del Toro and Perlman, which has put me off for a start. I wouldn’t be surprised if a TV series will be considered though….
