Yes, it’s true, the Blair Witch and You’re Next director, whose manga adaptation Death Note is out later this year, has been signed on to direct the remake of the 1992 Japanese King Kong Vs Godzilla. Good news to many I guess. Personally I’m not a fan of his work, though The Guest was okay, partly because Wingard was able to reign in his tendandy to have the camera shake about all over the place. Hopefully he’ll decide to let us properly see the two titans battle it out too.
The script for Godzilla vs Kong began in a writer’s room led by Pirates of the Caribbean scriptwriter Terry Rossio. Other contributors include the team of Patrick McKay and JD Payne, Lindsey Beer, Cat Vasko, TS Nowlin, Jack Paglen, and J Michael Straczynski….which is kind of odd, I mean do we really need a complex, involved plot in stead of just a way to get Godzilla and King Kong battling it out?
Godzilla vs Kong is due for release on May 22nd, 2020, but before that we have Godzilla: King of the Monsters, out on March 22nd, 2019.
