We’ve known about Ridley Scott’s plans for a new Alien series ever since Prometheus was in production, and the director recently told IGN that he’ll be shooting the next film “within 14 months“. The ridiculously busy 79-year old filmmaker, who also has kidnap movie All the Money in the World and drug lord drama The Cartel lined up, also hinted that Blade Runner could span into a franchise and even end up in a shared universe with the Alien series one day!
This is all certainly exciting for fans, but there are rumours, according to THR, that the next two Alien films are being “reassessed” because Alien: Covenant didn’t do as well at the box office as expected [possibly because Prometheus was so lousy?] and its revenue plummeted 71% in its second weekend. I’ll be honest and say that, while it was an improvement on Prometheus, I wasn’t too keen on Alien: Covenant either, so I won’t be too sad if they never make any more, but I’m still curious as to where Scott intends to take things.
