Considering that origin stories seem to be very common these days, I suppose I shouldn’t have been too surprised when Deadline broke the news that Len Wiseman, who directed the decent if unremarkable fourth entry Die Hard 4.0 aka Live Free Or Die Hard, is returning to the franchise, and that he and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura are looking for a screenwriter for what may be called Die Hard Year One which will serve as a prequel set in 1979 and show us how John McClaine became the guy we’re all familiar – though will also have some present day footage featuring Bruce Willis.

Can this work? I guess a great deal will be down to whoever plays the young McClaine. Joseph Gordon-Levitt did a good job playing the young version of a Bruce Willis character in Looper, but I can’t see him as a young McClaine can you? As Wiseman says:

“The right casting for this role is crucial. Those bare feet have some very big shoes to fill”.

If they do find the right person, then this ought to revive a franchise which lost its way a bit with its last entry [a reasonable action movie if taken on its own, not a good Die Hard film].

I'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
