You just can’t keep a good witch down!
Just in time for Halloween, its been reported that The Blair Witch Project is moving to the small screen with original co -creator Eduardo Sanchez attached.
The original which came out in 1999 was a huge box office smash that created the found footage craze (even though there were films before it with the same template) and while its sequel was critically savaged by everyone, last year’s sort of semi reboot/sequel was well accepted from everyone even though it didn’t take as much money as expected.
Sanchez who was speaking on the film oriented podcast Diminishing Returns via Bloody Disgusting, confirmed the surprising plans.
“For us, it’s a very natural thing to go and say, ‘Hey, let’s do a frickin’ Blair Witch show’ You can say it’s from the original creators and we can bring in a whole bunch of interesting directors to direct episodes.”
“I think that the idea of a Blair Witch anthology has always been very – just a really interesting thing. You’re close. You’re in the ballpark. You know, and I think it might be one of those things that might be – you know – the more you think about it, you’re like, ‘That might be the perfect… a TV show.’ You know? So, we’ll see what happens, but I think that’s the next big thing for Blair Witch. Probably TV.”
We stress that nothing is 100% confirmed yet, Sanchez stressed that he does not own the rights anymore and that Lionsgate do and ultimately its their idea, but we just have to wait and see if this actually does pan out.
More as we get it!
