What with Justice League turning out to be a box office disappointment in addition to getting the usual DC mixed response, a rumour has been circulating about Joss Whedon not being involved with Batgirl which, though it hasn’t even been greenlit yet, is supposedly being written by Whedon and possibly directed by him too. Whedon, who took over the film when Zack Snyder left the project to tend to a personal tragedy and was tasked with the rewriting it into something more in line with what Warner Bros. wanted, is being blamed by many for the horrendous mess that is Justice League, though he was only doing what the studio told him to do and had a ridiculously rushed schedule to complete the film.
However, according to EW, Whedon is still currently attached to direct Batgirl and is hard at work on the script right now. He seems to be taking no public ownership of Justice League [I don’t blame him] and even ‘liked’ a tweet that mocked the terrible villain Steppenwolf. The bigger question is whether Batgirl might be held up. Warners are apparently waiting to see what the week two box office will be on Justice League and which adjustments need to be made to their impending slate.
