The first teaser trailer for the first instalment in Peter Jackson’s new epic fantasy series has arrived, and the first words that went through my head were: Mad Max meets Howl’s Moving Castle. There are certainly a few interesting visuals and I wonder if this material, based on Philip Reeve’s series of post-apocalyptic, steampunk novels, has brought back Jackson’s old quirky side.

Mortal Engines is set in a pretty nightmarish future where cities roam and rampage around the globe, destroying towns for resources. Things soon take a mysterious turn when Tom Natsworthy has an unexpected encounter with a woman from the Outlands.

Jackson isn’t actually on board to direct the adaptation, which will be directed by Christian Rivers, but he’s producer and co-writer with his usual partners Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh. It stars Hugo Weaving, Robert Sheehan, Stephan Lang, Jihae, Colin Salmon and Hera Hilmar.

Mortal Engines is scheduled for release on December 14, 2018.

I'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
