The countdown is on, the build up has started and we have some juicy news this morning regarding the much anticipated Halloween sequel.
First off, Jason Blum has confirmed that original director John Carpenter will indeed score the new movie, which is a much welcome bit of news, considering the original tune is such an iconic horror classic.
While Jamie Lee Curtis who is returning as Laurie Strode (yes once again, they are ignoring every sequel, so her “death” in Resurrection is all but scrapped) has been quite vocal and has called the film “Halloween Retold”.
“I’ve seen a trailer and I’ve seen some footage, and it’s terrifying. They went full-tilt boogeyman. And I’ve never said that in my life, and I will say full-tilt boogeyman for the rest of the year as I go around talking about this” she said in a recent interview.
“As soon as I read what David Green and Danny McBride had come up with … and the way that they connected the dots of the story, it made so much sense to me that it felt totally appropriate for me to return to Haddonfield, Ill., for another 40th-anniversary retelling. There was the idea of, ‘What do you call it?’ If I had had my druthers, I probably would’ve called it Halloween Retold. Because it’s being retold. It’s the original story in many, many, many ways. Just retold 40 years later with my granddaughter.”
She believes long time fans will love what the new film offers……….even though she is no horror fan herself…..
“I think it’s going to be really fun for them to experience. For me, that just doesn’t hold any interest to me. Because I’m frightened enough about all [today’s political climate]. So the idea of now paying money and sitting in a dark theater with a bunch of people and watching something really scary doesn’t really do much for me. But there are a lot of people who love it, and they’re gonna love this movie.”
Judy Greer plays Karen Strode, Laurie’s daughter, while Andi Matichak is the film’s young lead (daughter to Greer and granddaughter to Curtis).
Nick Castle will return to the role of Michael Myers, while stunt performer and actor James Jude Courtney has also been cast to play Myers.
The cast also includes Virginia “Ginny” Gardner (Project Almanac, Marvel’s “Runaways”), Miles Robbins (Mozart in the Jungle, My Friend Dahmer), Dylan Arnold (Mudbound, Laggies, When We Rise), and Drew Scheid (“Stranger Things”, The War with Grandpa). They will be playing the friends of Matichak’s Allyson.
Halloween is released on October 19, 2018.
