At this year’s SXSW film festival, Blumhouse surprised everyone by unveiling their secret sequel to their hit found footage flick Unfriended, and today they announced on Twitter that Unfriended: Dark Web will be hitting cinemas on July 20th. This is good news for fans of the original [I wasn’t a fan myself – I found the constant focus on that screen rather tedious], but it’s odd how Blumhouse still seem to be rather cagey about the film despite good reports about it from SXSW. It’s being released in just over two months and yet we still only have one officially released image and not even a trailer, making it a rather mysterious movie – which I guess is kind of cool in a way.
When a 20-something finds a cache of hidden files on his new laptop, he is thrust into the deep waters of the dark web.
Unfriended: Dark Web is directed by Stephen Susco, written by Susco and Nelson Greaves, and stars Colin Woodell, Betty Gabriel, Stephanie Nogueras, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Andrew Lees, Connor Del Rio, and Savira Windyani.
